there was once a boy (man) that I loved…
You’re like the sunshine, the sunshine that forces itself through the leaves of the trees in the middle of winter. The sunshine that just gently touches your face and settles with the cold to turn you cheeks a slight red.
You’re like the wind, just a slight breeze, a gentle reminder.
A fullness that seeded itself in the bottom of my heart - a flower that forced it’s way in - that grows, every time you speak.
We are two lines who have rested next to each other - who have played and taken cues from each other. Two characters who have hated and found - who love. Two rose stems who have weaved their way together merely by change in a garden no one has ever seen. We are poets, we are rivers. We are whatever we want to be.
‘If you’re a bird, then I’m a bird.’
You’re like a song. An uncontrollable force that breaks through - chooses it’s place and inhabits every inch of soul You’re the silent whisper at night and quiet rustle of leaves on the ground. You’re the man on the moon - a careful creature who always sleeps with one ear open and both eyes shut.
A gentle touch on the cheek, a pressured kiss on the collarbone, and both hands on the waist. You’re a thought, a note, a melody. You are, every other memory.
You are security, you are safety. You are a dream, a hope. The past, present, and hopeful attendant of the future. You are a breath of the freshest air.
‘The best kind of love is the kind that awakens the soul - the kind that makes you reach for more.’
We are a rarity, a secret. We are hidden between every word ever spoken. We are fragile dishes who enjoy pushing ourselves off of shelfs. We are so far in, I’ve begun to lose sight of the surface. We are two roads that separate just long enough to miss the little things - only to come back to each other.
We are a promise, a vow. We are a blackened street and a lamp post. We are a paintbrush and a canvas - the sky and the sun - the words and the voice - the lyrics and the melody.
We are the two halves of a whole, who will never forget the other.
We are the definition of love.
(And still do, despite my great amount of common sense.)
