Alternative: Read My Lips
For the first time in my entire life, learning sign language paid off. I’m watching the kids, and one of Adriana’s Dad’s friends son, who is 11 - and I ordered pizza, because between him and Adriana they couldn’t agree on what they wanted for lunch, until I mentioned pizza - of course they were all for that! ANYWAY, when the pizza got here, I was trying to talk to her and realized she wasn’t responding to my questions and she smiled and said ‘I’m deaf’ - so I smiled back and told her one minute. Put the baby down, and told her in sign that the price was supposed to be on a credit card. The look on her face was of total shock, and I’m not sure why. But she signed back that she was surprised I could sign, because no one seems to be able to. And I smiled, we figured the mess out with the credit card, and Adriana’s dad just paid in cash, and she left.
It’s weird because when I learned sign language (and braille for that matter!) I didn’t think I would ever actually have a reason to know it. I just learned it because I was interested in the fact that there was a way to speak without words - without speech. (Other then writing of course.) I was a kid when I taught the basic words to myself (and really I’ve let what I know slip because I don’t really know much now, just common words). I’m not sure what the point of this is, but to say that I’m surprised that it came in handy, and I’m glad that it did :)
Fun Fun
The things that people want are odd. Like not, general people who just want random things, no, people who go looking for certain things, instead of oh say, other things. (Did you get that? Yeah.. I lost myself too.)
I have a few auctions up on Ebay at the moment (and I’m going to link them for you, because I can):
POP QUIZ! Can you tell which of those things are not like the others? Now also want to guess which on of those has a bid on it and the others don’t?
Well I’m not sure what you said, but here, I’ll just tell you. The Kodachrome slides got a bid after being up for only.. get this..
an hour. It’s got three watchers, one bid, and I woke up this morning with six questions regarding them, and they’ve still got 4 days to go. Stats for the other auctions all together? Four watchers, 3 questions, no bids - and they’ve been up for almost 4 days. Who knew slides were so popular? I kind of which I had put them up for more now. I also thought I had put an $80 BO on them, but I guess not.. hmm… Anyway, it’s really odd to me that someone would want a bunch of slides of people they’ve never met, or that I’ve ever met for this fact, over things they can actually use? I’m sure some of the slides - like the ones of Russian architecture, or of the Pope, could be used for educational purposes, but other then that? I can’t really think of a use for them. Some of them I think I’m going to keep just because they’re amazing. I stated that there’s around 1200 of them, but in reality there are probably around 1350 of them - some of the boxes are a quarter empty though, so I needed to round down for my “I don’t like people calling me a rip off” syndrome. ANYWAY, off to finish the Spring layout I’m working on dum dum!
